Bike Friday to add Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to four models

Two things here: First, sign up for Bike Friday’s Facebook postings. Really. It’s the best way to stay up to date on the latest developments inside Green Gear.

Second, the number of model variations within the Bike Friday line continues to grow. This time, the company has made the NuVinci N360 available on the New World Tourist, Pocket Llama, Pocket Crusoe and tikit.

The NuVinci is a stepless transmission stored within the hub of the rear wheel. Instead of a set number of gears, the NuVinci promises “gear-free” shifting that allows you to zero in on exactly the right ratio for conditions.

The N360 is a next-generation product. Fallbrook Technologies says the N360 is 30 percent lighter and 17 percent smaller in diameter than the original N170.

Still, it’s going to be interesting to see pictures of this hub inside a 16-inch wheel. I’m expecting exceptionally short spokes.
