Watch folding bicycles fly through the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend as Brompton pilots get serious during the Fourth Annual Brompton US Championship.
It’s the most hotly contested race on 16-inch wheels you’ll ever see among people wearing jackets and ties, but there are two tickets to the Brompton World Championships in London on the line.
Check out the start of a previous race, recorded on helmet cam.
Susan Todzy is back to defend her 2012 women’s title: “This may look like a hilarious, fun event, and believe me it is, but it’s also very serious. I’ve been preparing to beat my personal best and win the title again this year. I can’t wait to get back to London in July and compete against winners from around the world.”
This will be the second year that Calhoun Cycle has hosted the event in the City of Lakes, and there’s something for everyone.
- Bromptoneers cover six miles on a closed one-mile circuit on Lyndale Ave S, beginning at W 34th St in Minneapolis. Pre-race check-in is on June 23, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 10 a.m. sharp.
- A second event, the folding competition, follows the race at approximately 11 a.m. Participants and their families are invited to join the Calhoun Cycle team and representatives from Brompton Bicycle in a Brompton Parade Lap through Open Streets following the awards presentation at 11:45 a.m.
- Two non-competitive events will take place Saturday, June 22 in and around Minneapolis: the 26-mile “Multi-Modal Brompton Marathon” and “MPLS by Brompton, an Urban Trail Ride” for race participants, friends, and family.
“The Brompton US Championship is, of course a lot of fun,” says Calhoun Cycle owner Luke Breen. “But it’s also gathering attention nationwide. We have a field of entrants from all across the U.S. this year coming to compete in the race and get involved with other Brompton-related events, including a ride and picnic early Saturday and a BBQ with live music back at the shop the night before the race.”
