Steve Buchtel talks about Trails for Illinois: “We help communities and agencies build and connect to trails. We show them how trails can be used for economic development, environmental stewardship, and improving people’s health and well being – the Triple Bottom Line. We want everyone to have safe, convenient access to non-motorized trails. In other words, we want your home to be your trailhead.” (Adventure Cycling Organization)

Regrets? I’ve had a Yugo: Here’s a get-to-know-him interview with Paul White, executive director of Transportation Alternatives, “a New York City non-profit promoting cycling, walking and public transit.” (Gear Patrol)

First century ride more than a century ago: “In 1884, the national cycling magazine ‘Outing and the Wheelman’ gave Anderson and Schimpler credit for the first 100-miler in 24 hours.” (Biking Bis)

Tom Teesdale was a bicycle frame builder who lived in Iowa. If you build or appreciate handmade frames, you should learn who he was, even though you’ll never be able to buy a frame from him. (Red Kite Prayer)

Lock library for students on bikes: “I had several of the kids in the after school rides tell me they weren’t allowed to ride their bikes to school since they didn’t have a lock. So I had an idea… I used the donation to purchase 5 Abus U locks, some color coded key chains, and a key lock box to start a lock library at their school.” (Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin)

New eats in Dunlap: As a committed breakfast rider, I really miss Henry’s in Princeville. But Dunlap just picked up a new eatery, JamBerry, in the same great brick building as the long-ago Bicycle Inn. Looking forward to my first visit. (Facebook)
