I’ve used daylight running lights since early 2016.
Every day of every ride.
So it’s a bit surprising to finally use them at night.
Now granted, the 650-lumen headlight is on its highest setting, and the rear light is sold on two-kilometer visibility during the day, but wow.
I’ve never owned bicycle lights that needed to be dimmed for oncoming traffic.
Note: Shortest ride of the month–just around the neighborhood–but certainly the most illuminating.
I used to hate “junking up” my bike with lights, but night-time was okay. Now, however, I run lights all the time. I’ve found Cygolite’s “steady pulse” beam option to be the “killer app” for night and low-light commuting: it’s steady on a lower-lumen setting (maybe 600 on an 800 lumen light?) and it pulses every few seconds. I can see the road and cars know that I’m something different without being dazzled by intense strobing. Ride safe!
Good to hear from you. Guess one way to simplify a bike with lights is to eliminate derailleurs. I’ll get out the fixed gear and let you know how it goes.
I apologize if my comment appeared to be sarcastic. Not my intent at all. I just wanted to share the evolution of my attitude about bike lights. 🙂
Not at all. Simplicity is always my goal, even when sidetracked by accessories, books, wine, art and a spanking new compost heap (which I’ll assemble soon).
