There are two kinds of cats in the world: cats you see and cats you don’t.
I know this because I’m tending two cats for a few days. And if I were to draw a Venn diagram of these animals, one circle would be outlined in loose, ever-present cat hair and the second would barely exist, roughly defined by kibble left behind.
With some modifications, the same diagrammatic strategy applies to people who ride bicycles. Some ride in wet weather, contained by half circles of fenders, and some don’t ride in the wet, presumably existing within a larger, harder-to-see circle of hasty social media posts, increased attention to weather forecasters, and unburned calories.
Today, I’m in the company of both cats and fenders.
And it’s fine outside.
