I like bike parts for the same reason other people like hardware stores or doomed political candidates: They contain the promise of simple solutions to annoying problems.
Rear derailleur not shifting as swiftly as it once did? I get to buy cable and housing! Brakes not slowing the bike as they once did? I get to buy brake shoes!
Tires worn? I get to buy tires! Will I change brands this time? I might, I might not. I might go up a size. There’s room in there for a wider tire, isn’t there? I don’t know. But I’m going to find out.
And can you believe all they want for this stuff is money? What a steal!
On, then, to Day 14, made possible by that bike part in the picture, a Model “T” Twiddly tikit Stem Knob, which goes through the Twiddly Pacman tikit Stem Clamp to ensure my Bike Friday tikit’s folding stem only folds when I want it to.
And not when I’m riding in this miserable excuse for an April.
